Aaron Rodgers tells Derwin James “give me a few weeks” on his return

Could Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers return in the near future? If you take him in his word Monday night, he sure seems to think so.

After the Jets’ 27-6 loss on Monday against the Chargers, cameras caught Rodgers meeting up with Chargers defensive back Derwin James. James asked Rodgers “When are you coming back?” Rodgers replied, “Give me a few weeks.”

Rodgers is only eight weeks removed from suffering his Achilles tear just four snaps into his Jets debut against the Buffalo Bills. He has continued to make excellent progress thanks to his speed bridge that was used to accelerate the healing process. After ditching his crutches a few weeks ago, Rodgers now does not have any sort of noticeable limp she; he walks.

He was once again on the sideline during the game and wearing a headset, offering any sort of insight he could to help the Jets.

The Jets are now 4-4 following the Chargers loss and currently sit 11th in the playoff standings, behind four five-win teams (Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Buffalo) and the bottom of a three-way tie among the other 4-4 teams (Houston, L.A. Chargers).

New York’s Week 10 opponent, the Las Vegas Raiders, are also right behind the Jets now at 4-5, along with the Indianapolis Colts.

Rodgers has repeatedly said that the Jets have to be alive for him to consider making a return this season. They are still in the playoff hunt, but their loss Monday certainly was a missed opportunity. The Jets would have held the No. 6 seed had they won. They’ve far from out of the picture and if they can hold on, we may see Rodgers sooner than expected. Just give him a few weeks.
