In the second act of his NFL career with the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers will need weapons to throw to. It’s early, but it appears former top-10 pick Garrett Wilson has already cemented himself as Rodgers’ favorite target with Gang Green. The two have consistently linked up during Jets preseason and training camp.
And based on a recent social media post, it looks like Rodgers is all in on his new No. 17.
Late Wednesday night, Rodgers posted a photo of himself and Wilson talking and holding each other. The caption should furl an eyebrow for anyone familiar with Rodgers’ career. It says, “Always love my 17s,” in reference to Wilson sharing the jersey number of Rodgers’ former dynamic Green Bay Packers partner-in-crime, Davante Adams. The latter, of course, was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in the spring of 2022, where he continued playing like an All-Pro.
If that isn’t a ringing endorsement of what Wilson is capable of with a star quarterback, I don’t know what is.
Safe to say Aaron Rodgers is very, very high on what Garrett Wilson will do in the passing game… pic.twitter.com/IVh2kxpK4i

Wilson spent the better part of his rookie season catching passes from a rotating cast of glorified backups in Zach Wilson and Mike White. He still caught 83 passes for 1103 yards and averaged over 13 yards a reception. Such production under difficult circumstances offered a mere glimpse of what the 23-year-old receiver can accomplish in the NFL.
Not even Adams — who Wilson is getting compared to — was that good right away as a professional flanker.
The sky should be the limit with a future Hall of Fame quarterback throwing him the ball now. And said future Hall of Famer seems to believe he and Wilson will reach those heights together.
