Aaron Donald wins NFC Defensive Player of the Year at 101 Awards

Aaron Donald is the first player ever to win the award four times.

Aaron Donald continues to rack up the accolades and awards this offseason ahead of the NFL Honors show the night before the Super Bowl. On Thursday, the 101 Awards announced that Donald has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Year.

This is the fourth time Donald has won the award, which is the most ever by a player in the NFC. He also took home the honor in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

Donald was named a Pro Bowler for the seventh time and voted a first-team All-Pro for the sixth straight season this year after ranking second in the NFL with 13.5 sacks and leading in pressures (98).

T.J. Watt, Donald’s primary competition for AP Defensive Player of the Year, was named AFC Defensive Player of the Year at the 101 Awards, as well, after leading the league with 15 sacks, 23 tackles for loss and 41 QB hits.

The AP award will be announced at the NFL Honors show on Saturday, Feb. 6. Donald is seeking to win it for the third time in his career, all in the last four seasons.

The 101 Awards is a gala hosted by the Chiefs each year, celebrating the top performers from the season. It’s the oldest awards even dedicated to the NFL, dating back to 1969. The awards are voted on by 101 national media members.
