Like most construction projects, there have been some hiccups along the way for SoFi Stadium. Heavy rain a few years ago delayed the opening a year, and this spring, the coronavirus pandemic hit, which created some uncertainty about the progress that could be made.
Workers on-site in Inglewood haven’t been able to avoid the coronavirus, with many contracting it. According to the Los Angeles Times, a total of 25 workers have tested positive for COVID-19.
Los Angeles has seen a spike in coronavirus cases recently, so it’s not exactly surprising that the number of positive tests by workers at SoFi Stadium is also climbing. The last update was that 18 workers had tested positive as of June 18.
SoFi Stadium was scheduled to open on Aug. 14 for a Rams-Saints preseason game, but with the league trimming the first and last weeks of the preseason, that opening date has now been pushed back. Instead, the Rams and Chargers will open the stadium together for a game on Aug. 22.
