Well, for folks on Twitter, it finally happened.
Twitter and CEO Elon Musk followed through with their latest promise of removing legacy Twitter verification — the blue check marks confirming a person’s (or company’s) identity — on April 20. Whether or not it would happen on this day was in question because nothing happened on previously announced removal dates.
But early Thursday afternoon, it appeared as though individuals with the legacy Twitter verification — many of whom were celebrities, athletes, journalists and other notable figures whose identities were confirmed — lost their blue check marks.
Twitter users can still get a blue check or get it back by paying $8 a month for Twitter Blue. But last month, several athletes said they wouldn’t be paying for the check.
So after Twitter removed its legacy verification Thursday, here’s a look at some of the athletes and sports figures who still have a blue check mark — though we cannot say with certainty that they paid for it.
