A new single-player Witcher Gwent game may arrive this year

Another hand from CD Project Red.

One of the most beloved side activities in RPG history is Gwent from The Witcher, and it’s getting a new spinoff later in 2022.

A report by IGN  confirms that a single-player Gwent game tentatively titled “Project Golden Nekker” is in development at  CD Project Red. It’s from the development team that brought us Gwent: The Witcher Card Game  and The Witcher Tales: Thronebreaker  series. However, Project Golden Nekker will be an entirely separate entity, according to Gwent Communications lead Paweł Burza.

“It’s not another Witcher Tales [game] but something different,” Burza said via IGN. “We’re aiming to provide a captivating single-player for players who prefer it over competitive multiplayer Gwent.”

CD Project Red didn’t give a release window for Project Golden Nekker, but the studio is confident it’ll come out this year. The timing couldn’t be better, with the wildly successful Witcher  series on Netflix  reaching its second season and a next-generation upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt  in the works.

Still no word on that enhanced edition of Cyberpunk 2077, but  it’s supposedly coming in 2022. Perhaps it’s not  best upcoming RPG  material, but any excuse to delve back into The Witcher’s  world is good enough for most fans.
