A new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet patch is on the way

The Pokemon Company promised another Pokemon Scarlet and Violet patch, but what it fixes in the monster-catching RPG is a mystery

Another Pokemon Scarlet and Violet patch is in the works, and The Pokemon Company plans to release it sometime in late February. The news comes as Game Freak and The Pokemon Company celebrate reaching the milestone of 1,000 total Pokemon since the series first began in the mid-1990s.

The 1,000th Pokemon is Gholdengo, or as fans half-mockingly, half-affectionately call it, the string-cheese Pokemon. The Ghost-and-Steel type made its debut in Scarlet and Violet when the games launched in November 2022.

The Pokemon Company buried mention of the patch at the bottom of a lengthy press release, but didn’t mention what the update will fix or how extensive it will be. More details about what to expect from it will roll out sometime before the patch is ready to download.

It’s the monster-catching RPGs’ second patch meant to fix some of the many errors they launched with, ranging from bugs that caused short audio loops to repeat to characters dropping through floors and Pokemon straight-up disappearing.

The number and variety of bugs didn’t stop the games from selling over 10 million copies in their first weekend, though.

When the first patch released in 2022, Nintendo acknowledged the issues and promised further improvements.

“Our goal is always to give players a positive experience with our games, and we apologize for the inconvenience, Nintendo said. “We take the feedback from players seriously and are working on improvements to the games.”
