Vitello is slated to return as Tennessee’s head coach Sunday in the Vols’ series finale at Florida. Tennessee pitching coach Frank Anderson was also ejected April 16 and served a one-game suspension in the series finale against Alabama.
The Southeastern Conference released a statement to Vols Wire on Tennessee’s ejections.
Penalties related to ejections are governed by the NCAA. By procedure, umpires file a postgame report to the NCAA and the NCAA then provides a report (generally the following morning) to the conference office to confirm any related penalties associated with the ejection, at which time any penalties are communicated to the school.
Vitello was also suspended during his first season at Tennessee in 2018. He received a two-game suspension.
Ahead of Tennessee’s contest against Vanderbilt on May 11, 2018, the suspended Vitello set up a lemonade stand and had a pizza party outside Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Proceeds benefited the National CASA Association.
