A look at what Tennessee will owe Kevin Steele

Kevin Steele will not be retained at Tennessee.

The University of Tennessee parted ways with third-year head coach Jeremy Pruitt on Jan. 18.

Pruitt was 16-19 (10-16 SEC) in three seasons at Tennessee.

Former Vol Kevin Steele served as Tennessee’s interim head coach after Pruitt’s departure and before the Vols hired Josh Heupel as head coach on Jan. 27.

Steele signed a contract with Tennessee on Jan. 12 before Pruitt was relieved of his head coaching duties. He will not be retained on Heupel’s staff.

Tennessee will owe Steele as much as $860,870 in severance, according to his separation agreement obtained by Knox News through a public records request.
