A Korean player’s celebration completely backfired and became an out at the World Baseball Classic

When celebrating goes wrong.

I’m all for celebrations in baseball. The more celebrating — especially giant home runs and key strikeouts from pitchers — the better.

But you’d better make sure that your celebration won’t turn into an out, as it did in Korea’s shocking 8-7 loss to Australia at the World Baseball Classic.

Here’s what happened: With his team down 5-4, Baekho Kang hit a double and was at second, celebrating to his dugout. But he took his foot off the bag and an Australian infielder tagged him. After replay, sure enough, he was called out.

What’s worse? The next batter hit a single. And given the final score, that run sure would have helped:
