A few potential Jets free agent targets likely to be franchise tagged

The Jets will likely have fewer options in free agency after reports two big names won’t hit the open market.

The Jets might not get the chance to woo some of their potential free agent targets.

While the biggest prize on the market – Packers WR Davante Adams – will almost certainly be given the franchise tag, a few other big names aren’t likely to hit free agency, either.

Bengals safety Jessie Bates and Chargers receiver Mike Williams are both expected to remain with their respective teams, according to USA Today’s Tyler Dragon. If neither can agree on a long-term contract, the teams will use the franchise tag, per Dragon.

Those are two big names off the board, but it doesn’t mean the Jets won’t have any options this spring. Saints safety Marcus Williams doesn’t expect to be franchise tagged, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, but New Orleans will likely attempt to keep him on a long-term contract.

The Jets have a ton of roster holes they’ll need to fill in free agency. Safety and receiver are big ones, but now they will need to narrow their focus on a few other names.
