A bit of trash talk ahead of the Cotton Bowl featuring Florida vs Oklahoma

Florida’s junior linebacker James Houston is not too impressed with the Oklahoma Sooners heading into the Cotton Bowl this Wednesday.

In case you missed it last week, Florida Gators linebacker James Houston IV had some choice words for his opponent in the upcoming Cotton Bowl, the Oklahoma Sooners. Specifically, he said the following.

“Oklahoma is a good matchup, but they’re not on our level. They’re not the SEC. They’re not the Florida Gators. So we should put on a good show.”

Here’s the official transcript:

Q. Sort of like Atlanta is a destination for SEC games, the AT&T Stadium in Arlington (Texas) is a destination for Big 12 teams. How is it going to be coming in here and playing Oklahoma? It’s just a few days since they won their Big 12 title there. What do you know about AT&T Stadium and your thoughts about playing there?

LB JAMES HOUSTON IV: I’ve never actually played in the Cowboys Stadium (AT&T Stadium). I did go to the game when we played Michigan my freshman year. I actually loved the stadium. I love how it’s set up, the indoors. It almost feels like a basketball arena, which I really like.

I don’t think we’re too much worried about home-field advantage or teams being closer there. I think this is more about what we want to put on film, what we want to put on tape, going out and just showing what the Florida Gators can do, showing that Oklahoma is a good match-up but they’re not on our level. They’re not SEC. They’re not the Florida Gators. So we should put on a good show.

Houston’s teammates, however, were much more modest in their comments on the upcoming New Year’s Six matchup. Wide receiver Justin Shorter called Oklahoma “a pretty good team” while Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback Kyle Trask offered the following based on the film he has watched on the Sooners.

“They’ve got some solid players. We’re just going to have to put together a good game plan and just execute.”

The game will kick off at 8 p.m. EST on Dec. 30 in AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas. The game will be broadcast on ESPN, can be livestreamed on the ESPN app and can be heard on the Gators Radio Network.
