Steve Kornacki breaks down Broncos’ NFL playoff chances

It’s simple for the Broncos: win and they’re in the NFL playoffs. If they go 0-2, things get more complicated.

During a Football Night in America segment on Dec. 22, NBC’s Steve Kornacki broke down the current Wild Card race in the AFC.

The Denver Broncos are currently the No. 7 seed, but that could change if they don’t win of their last two games of the regular season.

“It started Thursday night when the Chargers got that huge win over the Broncos,” Kornacki said of the AFC’s developing playoff picture. “The Chargers [are] all but in now in the sixth spot. And the Broncos you can see [are] sitting there now the seventh and final spot. Good position [to make it]. If the Broncos can just win one of their final two games, the whole Wild Card race is over [and] the Broncos are in [with a win].”

All the Broncos need is one more win. But if they don’t get that win, Denver will leave the door open for the Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts.

“If Denver loses against Cincy and then Kansas City [in] Week 18 [and] finishes] 9-8, it’s open to these other teams,” Kornacki noted.

The simplest path to the playoffs for the Broncos would be secured by beating the Bengals on Saturday afternoon.
