Can the Steelers finally solve their Patrick Mahomes problem?

Patrick Mahomes has dominated the Pittsburgh Steelers in past matchups, but this Christmas Day clash arguably features their best defense yet.

To keep it short and more bitter than sweet, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has owned the Pittsburgh Steelers defense.

There is no sugarcoating his domination of the Black and Gold, as through his two regular-season games against the Steelers—in 2018 and 2021—Mahomes has thrown for nine touchdowns, zero interceptions, and 584 passing yards, all while averaging an incredible 148.2 passer rating.

If these stats don’t strike fear into the hearts of all Steelers fans, Mahomes has won two more Super Bowls since last playing against the Black and Gold.

His numbers in 2024, while they look pedestrian compared to some of his better statistical seasons—such as his MVP campaign in 2018, when Mahomes threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 TDs—still prove his ability to win football games.

What makes this particular Week 17 Christmas Day matchup between Mahomes and the Steelers interesting is that this may be the very best Pittsburgh defense the two-time MVP award winner has ever faced.

The Steelers are set to get back several key defensive starters for the matchup as well, which could present the Mahomes-led Chiefs offense with a real challenge in Week 17 on Christmas Day at 1:00 PM EST.
