Oklahoma’s Jeremiah Fears named SEC Freshman of the Week

Oklahoma Sooners Jeremiah Fears earns SEC Freshman of the Week after performance against Michigan and Central Arkansas.

The Oklahoma Sooners are on the verge of the top 10 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after extending their record to 12-0 with wins over Michigan and Central Arkansas last week. OU came in at No. 11 in the nation in the latest top 25.

The Sooners have the best team Porter Moser’s put on the floor in his four seasons in Norman. The catalyst for the Sooners’ success through the first 12 games of the season has been true freshman [autotag]Jeremiah Fears[/autotag]. After his 30-point performance against Michigan, which included a game-tying three and a go-ahead free throw to complete a four-point play, Fears was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

Against Michigan, Fears was 8 of 12 from the field, 3 of 4 from three, and 11 of 13 from the free throw line in the top 25 win.

In Oklahoma’s win over Central Arkansas on Sunday, Fears scored 19 points with five assists.

It’s his second weekly honor this season after earning Freshman of the Week for his performance in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas.

Fears and the Oklahoma Sooners next take the floor on Sunday, Dec. 29 against Prairie View A&M.
