Notre Dame kicked off the 2024 College Football Playoff on Friday night in the first-ever 12-team playoff on a very cold night at Notre Dame Stadium.
Quarterbacks Riley Leonard and Kurtis Rourke were seen early on trying to keep their hands warm, and for good reason. At kickoff, the temperature was below freezing at 29 degrees, with a slight 4 mile-per-hour wind.
According to AccuWeather, we could see snow falling midway through the game, as there’s a 47 percent chance of precipitation. Temperatures are forecasted to fall to as low at 27 degrees by 11 p.m. ET.
It won’t be the only cold playoff game on the schedule. Over in State College, Pennsylvania, SMU-Penn State will be played in 26-degree weather on Saturday at noon, while on Saturday night in Columbus, the temperature will also be below freezing for Tennessee-Ohio State.
