LSU football getting big NIL boost from unexpected source

NIL money can come from anywhere. See the surprising reason LSU will get an extra 225K in NIL dollars.

LSU football is getting an NIL boost from an unexpected source.

According to a report from Louisiana Illuminator, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill will use NIL to help promote an anti-vaping campaign. Under the deal, $225,000 will be given to LSU athletes over the next three years.

ULM, Grambling, Grambling, Southeastern State, and McNeese will also benefit, but LSU is getting the bulk of the cash.

$225,000 isn’t a huge sum in the grand scheme of things, but every piece matters in the sport’s modern era.

LSU is making a concerted effort to raise its NIL spending. Last week, LSU announced head coach Brian Kelly would match donations to LSU’s NIL collective with his own donations to the Tiger Athletic Foundation up to a million dollars. Earlier this week, another anonymous donor agreed to do the same thing.

On early National Signing Day, Kelly was vocal about how important it is to be competitive in the NIL space. If you want a championship program, you need to pay for championship players.
