Utah Tech long snapper Ryan Kean commits to Washington

Utah Tech long snapper Ryan Kean became Washington’s sixth transfer portal commitment, adding competition at the position.

On the same day Washington lost a punter to Nebraska, the Huskies added a long snapper from Utah Tech.

Ryan Kean announced his commitment on Tuesday, becoming the sixth player to join Jedd Fisch’s squad out of the transfer portal. He joins offensive linemen Geirean Hatchett (Oklahoma) and Carver Willis (Kansas State), defensive linemen Anterio Thompson (Western Michigan) and Simote Pepa (Utah), and safety Alex McLaughlin (Northern Arizona).

Kean was Utah Tech’s primary long snapper each of the last two seasons after sitting out in 2022 as a redshirt. The Corona, California native, who earned Freshman All-America honors in 2023, will have two more seasons of eligibility with the Huskies.

Washington’s long snapper room is suddenly a bit more crowded than the average program’s, as Kean’s commitment brings the Huskies to three snappers on the 2025 roster. Colorado transfer Cameron Warchuck returns after splitting time with walk-on Caleb Johnston this season and rising recruit Hunter Solwold remains in the fold as a preferred walk-on.

Johnston, who handled field goals and extra points in Big Ten play, is in the transfer portal. Punter Adam Saul is also in the portal as Washington looks to turn over nearly their entire special teams operation.

Fisch told the media on Tuesday that he isn’t sure how many more transfers to expect to come to Montlake, but that it will be “a lot more” than the six currently slated to come to campus.
