The Carolina Panthers parted ways with a veteran defender on Tuesday.
According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston, the team has waived cornerback Anthony Brown off injured reserve. The 31-year-old was shelved back on Aug. 19 due to a thumb injury.
Brown entered the league as a sixth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2016 draft. He’d spend his first seven NFL seasons there—amassing 324 combined tackles, 59 passes defensed, nine interceptions, five forced fumbles and 4.0 sacks over 94 games.
His seventh season saw stops with the Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets. Brown ended up appearing in two games for San Francisco, with each of his three snaps coming on special teams.
Looking for depth at the cornerback position throughout this past summer, Carolina signed Brown on Aug. 3. He played in the Panthers’ first two preseason contests, one against the New England Patriots and the other against the New York Jets.
