The NFC West has been one of the better divisions in football for the last several years, but it’s been a bit of a struggle this season. It’s one of just two divisions in football where the top team has fewer than nine wins, with the Rams and Seahawks leading the way at 8-6. The Cardinals are close behind at 7-7, with the 49ers rounding out the group at 6-8.
As disappointing as some of those records are, it’s been a wildly unpredictable season in the division. All four teams have had a share of the lead for at least one week this year, and three of them have been in last place for at least one week.
This chart from Reddit shows what a crazy season it’s been in the NFC West, illustrating the rise and fall of each team from Week 1 to 15. The Rams climbed all the way out of last place in Week 8 to reach the top , while the 49ers went from first in Week 6 to the basement for the last four weeks.
Looking at the chart, it’s hard to decide which team has had the most volatile season. The Rams have been on a steady upward trajectory, but the Seahawks went from first to last and back to first in a span of six weeks.
The Cardinals are the only team that hasn’t spent a week in last place, and they’ve also had five weeks at the top of the division – second only to the Seahawks, who have had seven weeks in first.
It’s honestly a mesmerizing chart to illustrate a rollercoaster season in the NFC West.
