With Week 16 of the 2024 NFL season upon us, where do the Indianapolis Colts rank in several key metrics heading into this week’s matchup with Tennessee?
Stats certainly aren’t the be-all-end-all, and as we all know, the game of football isn’t played on paper. All metrics should be taken with varying degrees of salt because there is context and nuance that goes into all of this.
An example would be turnover differential, where the Colts don’t rank all that well. However, their defense has actually been quite good at generating turnovers, but unfortunately, the offense gives the ball away all too often to cancel out those takeaways.
We also need to be mindful of both positive and negative trends that can occur over a multi-week sample size, which could potentially impact how the current week’s game unfolds, we are also entering Week 16 of the 2024 season.
While we saw the Colts run defense have a really good performance against Denver, they’ve struggled in that regard for much of the season.
At this stage of the game, there is a large enough sample size at hand to where these stats generally tell us who this Colts team is relative to the rest of the NFL.
While this article could be endless given all of the stats and metrics that are out there to measure a team’s performance, in an effort to be concise while still highlighting pertinent information, I boiled down my stat selection to the basics of football: run game performance, passing game performance, pressures, turnovers, third down and red zone success, and points.
