In a move that comes as a shock even in the growing age of the transfer portal, Washington Huskies standout freshman linebacker Khmori House announced his intentions to find a new home on Monday evening. The former three-star recruit from St. John Bosco High School in Southern California also entered the portal in January following Washington’s coaching change but ultimately chose to remain in Seattle, which was the right decision.
House quickly turned into a star in defensive coordinator Steve Belichick’s scheme. One week after making his first career start against Washington State, he was named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week after recording 6 tackles and an interception against Northwestern and was lauded as an emerging leader in the room.
“That’s the best thing about him, man,” senior Alphonzo Tuputala said in November. “Being older guys, it’s kinda my first time taking someone under my wing, same thing with Carson [Bruener]. But Khmori, along with all the other young guys, Deven Bryant, and a whole bunch of other names in there, just bring an energy to the room. Being able to show them the ropes, show them how to do things, but also, I’ve taken a few things from Khmori and Deven Bryant. Khmori is a great teammate, man.”
He finished his first season with 33 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception, which earned him a spot on College Football Network’s Freshman All-America Honorable Mention list.
House was penciled in to take over as a starter in 2025 with the Huskies losing four senior linebackers, and will now have to rely on young players like sophomore Deven Bryant and freshman Zaydrius Rainey-Sale, among others, along with any potential transfer portal additions to the void at the position.
The 6-foot, 213-pound linebacker will presumably follow Belichick, who is expected to take the defensive coordinator role at North Carolina after his father, Bill Belichick, took the head coaching job with the Tar Heels.
