‘College GameDay’ announces CFP location: Will Clemson finally be featured?

ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ has announced locations for two CFP games.

It’s been a while since Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers have been in a game featured on ESPN’s “College GameDay.”

And it’s going to be at least a while longer.

On Wednesday, GameDay announced two locations for the first round of the College Football Playoffs. The crew of Nick Saban, Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee will be in South Bend, Ind., on Friday, Dec. 20 for the matchup between the No. 10 seed Indiana Hoosiers (11-1) and the No. 7 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-1) at Notre Dame Stadium.

The following Saturday, GameDay will be in Columbus for the first-round game between the No. 9 seed Tennessee Volunteers and the No. 8 seed Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium. Kickoff for Tennessee-Ohio State is at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN.

That same day, No. 12 seed Clemson (10-3 overall) faces the No. 5 seed Texas Longhorns (11-2) at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin at 4 p.m. ET.

While Clemson-Texas will be broadcast on TNT, the game will feature ESPN announcers as part of a five-year agreement to sublicense select CFP games to TNT Sports beginning in 2024.

The last time College GameDay was on site for a game that involved the Tigers was on Oct. 1, 2022. That day, Clemson hosted rival NC State in a top 10 matchup in Death Valley. Clemson, then ranked No. 5, defeated No. 10 NC State, 30-20.

The Tigers, ranked No. 13 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll, defeated the SMU Mustangs, 34-31, on a 56-yard Nolan Hauser field goal as time expired in the ACC Championship Game last Saturday to advance to the CFP for the first time since 2020.

Texas fell, 22-19. to the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game. The Longhorns are ranked No. 4 in the Coaches Poll.
