When Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff first made the move from Arizona to Washington, there was a lot of speculation that cornerback Tacario Davis might join the Wildcats like his running mate Ephesians Prysock, quarterback Demond Williams Jr., running back Jonah Coleman, and several others that made the move to Seattle.
However, despite entering the transfer portal, he chose to stick out the 2024 season in Tucson with coach Brent Brennan. Now, following a 4-8 campaign, Davis has chosen to enter the transfer portal again, and cornerbacks coach John Richardson should be licking his chops to reunite with one of his top products.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Davis was regarded as a potential first round draft pick coming into the 2024 season and was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team despite Arizona’s struggles. He was also named to the AP’s All-Pac-12 Second Team in 2023 after leading the conference with 16 pass breakups while working under Richardson.
“One of his most impressive traits is his ability to transition in and out of breaks in man coverage, it’s rare to see cornerbacks of his size be able to flip their hips effectively,” Huskies Wire’s Ben Glassmire said in his evaluation. Many are simply bogged down by their length and even average fluidity is a bonus. This isn’t the case for Davis, who can easily mirror receivers and react to breaks, allowing him to cover much smaller and twitchier wide receivers with ease.”
However, it’s going to be very difficult for the Huskies to reel in a commitment from the talented cornerback. SEC powers like Texas and Georgia that churn out NFL prospects should be geared up to make a push for his services, but Richardson has shown that he is a strong recruiter and his long-standing relationship with Davis could be a key factor in luring him out of the transfer portal.
Wherever he lands, he will have one year of eligibility remaining.
