The University of North Carolina’s Board of Trustees is expected to hold an emergency meeting Wednesday, where the board is expected to discuss a contract for a new football coach, according to sources familiar with the process.
The school has offered legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick the job. Belichick, 72. won six Super Bowls as coach of the New England Patriots, but has no college coaching experience.
If Belichick were to accept, he would replace the legendary Mack Brown who was fired after six seasons in his second stint.
Belichick is a legend in his own right, coaching dozens of years at the NFL level and winning six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and then two others as an assistant.
The hiring of Belichick would be a major move for the landscape of North Carolina football, a program that has struggled over the past few years despite having two quarterbacks drafted including Drake Maye at No. 3 overall.
