Washington to host productive West Virginia linebacker on official visit

The Washington Huskies will host one of the transfer portal’s top linebackers on an official visit.

According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff is pursuing yet another addition to the Washington program with deep NFL ties. West Virginia linebacker Josiah Trotter is ranked as the No. 3 linebacker in the transfer portal by 247Sports and is set to take an official visit to Montlake over the weekend.

His father, two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler Jeremiah, played 11 seasons in the NFL, and his brother, Jeremiah Jr. is playing out his rookie campaign with their father’s team, the Philadelphia Eagles. Linebacker runs deep in the Trotter family, and Josiah appears to be well on his way to becoming the next NFL prospect at the position in his family.

As a redshirt freshman with the Mountaineers during the 2024 season, he tallied 92 tackles, 2 pass breakups, 1 interception, and 1/2 sack on his way to winning the Big 12’s Defensive Freshman of the Year award, and an All-Big 12 honorable mention.

Trotter would be a seamless fit for linebackers coach Robert Bala in the middle of Washington’s defense, as the 6-foot-2, 238-pounder has all the necessary skills to slot in next to Khmori House, who is expected to slot into a starting role in his second season after impressing as a true freshman.

Bala appears to be looking to add at least one player to the position, and the productive Trotter is one of the best available options, but the Huskies aren’t the only team in pursuit of his services. He has also set up a visit to Missouri, who have gotten the better of Fisch’s coaching staff the last two times the schools have gone head-to-head on the recruiting trail.
