The Washington Huskies are experiencing some of the normal turnover that comes with the transfer portal, and on Monday night that extended to redshirt freshman offensive lineman Kahlee Tafai. The 6-foot-5, 330-pound prospect of Leuzinger High School in Los Angeles announced his decision to look for a new home, which came as a bit of a shock considering some of offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll’s needs up front.
Tafai played in eight games during his second year on campus, starting Washington’s final four games of the season at left tackle, and showed that he may have a future along the Huskies’ offensive line. However, it may have been on the interior.
Washington’s coaching staff was also very happy with junior college transfer Maximus McCree, who suffered a dislocated thumb in the Huskies’ 40-16 loss at Iowa and missed the rest of the regular season.
Jedd Fisch is also expected to be very active in the transfer portal along the offensive line, earning a commitment from former Husky Geirean Hatchett on Monday, and should be involved with most of the portal’s top tackles.
With his announcement, Tafai becomes the seventh Husky to enter the transfer since the season ended, joining edge rushers Maurice Heims and Lance Holtzclaw, running backs Cameron Davis and Sam Adams II, offensive lineman Gaard Memmelaar, and cornerback Curley Reed. That number becomes eight when factoring in linebacker Bryun Parham, who opted to redshirt to preserve his eligibility during the season.
