College Football Playoff rankings, first-round matchups set

The College Football Rankings for the postseason tournament are in place.

Oregon is No. 1, followed by conference champions Georgia, Boise State and Arizona State, respectively.

Texas is No. 5 and will play No. 12 Clemson in the first round in Austin.

Penn State is the sixth seed and plays No. 11 in Happy Valley against SMU from the ACC.

Notre Dame has been seeded seventh and will play Indiana in South Bend.  This is an in-state battle.

The eighth seed, which will also have a home game goes to Ohio State, which will host to No. 9 Tennessee from the SEC.

The first-round games will take place on Dec. 20-21,

The Clemson-Texas winner plays Arizona State.

The Buckeyes-Vols survivor goes against Oregon.

The SMU-Penn State winner plays Boise State.

Finally, the Indiana-Notre Dame victory plays Georgia.
