Report: Bill Belichick interviewed for job at major college program

Bill Belichick was reportedly interviewed for the head coaching job at North Carolina

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has reportedly interviewed for the head coaching vacancy at the University of North Carolina.

Per Inside Carolina’s Grant Hughes, Belichick was among a group of candidates interviewed for the vacancy since the firing of Mack Brown on November 26.

Some of the other candidates included in the mix were Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann and Tulane coach Jon Sumrall.

Belichick parted ways with the Patriots back in January, and Patriots former inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo was hired as his replacement. The legendary coach failed to land a head coaching job in the NFL’s 2024 cycle.

There was always the belief that he’d return to coaching. Most figured it would be in the NFL considering he’s only 15 wins shy of breaking Don Schula’s all-time wins record.

College football would be a different trajectory altogether for the 72-year-old coach. It’s hard to imagine that the services of a six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach wouldn’t be desired everywhere.
