In his final year with the Washington Huskies, linebacker Carson Bruener was the only Husky to be named by both the coaches and the media to the All-Big Ten third team. Despite playing most of the season with an injured shoulder, the second generation Husky finished No. 7 in the conference in tackles with 93 and a career-high 3 interceptions.
Washington’s 26-21 win over USC in November was easily Bruner’s best game of the season and put him on the radar to receive the All-Big Ten selection when he had 12 tackles and 2 interceptions, and also earned him Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The Redmond, Washington native stepped into a much bigger role in his final season, starting every game for Steve Belichick’s defense, after acting as a rotational linebacker and special teams player for the majority of his career. He was also named to the watch list for the prestigious Butkus Award earlier in the season, and was selected as a team captain by his teammates.
Next up on Bruener’s list, following Washington’s bowl game, is the NFL draft cycle, where he’ll follow in his father’s footsteps.
Junior running back Jonah Coleman joined Bruener as the only other Washington player to make an all conference team.
