North Carolina just outside of top 25 in first NET rankings

Where the UNC basketball program lands in the first NET rankings of the 2024-25 season.

The holiday weekend is over and with multiple big college basketball tournaments wrapping up, we will start to get into more non-conference play as well as conference play in December. But before that, the first NET rankings of the year have dropped.

For North Carolina, the Tar Heels leave the month of November with a 4-3 record after a disappointing showing in the Maui Invitational with a comeback win over Dayton followed by losses to Auburn and Michigan State. The Tar Heels’ third loss was at No. 1 Kansas.

With that record, the Tar Heels are just outside of the top 25 in the NET rankings, checking in at No. 26. That ranking makes sense as UNC is 1-3 in Quad 1 games this season.

Here’s a look at the top 10:

As for the Atlantic Coast Conference, Duke leads the way at No. 4 followed by No. 5 Pitt, and No. 18 Clemson.

North Carolina’s next opponent, Alabama, checks in at No. 13 which gives the Tar Heels a big Quad 1 opportunity on Wednesday. UNC also faces off against No. 6 Florida and No. 16 UCLA later in December as well, providing some tough tests for the program.
