Michigan State football may be favored by the betting books, but SP+ is giving the edge to Rutgers this week

Michigan State football may be favored by the betting books, but SP+ is giving the edge to Rutgers this week.

Bill Connelly of ESPN released his week 14 predictions from SP+ — which is a statistics-based algorithm for rankings teams and predicting outcomes — and it predicts the Scarlet Knights to beat Michigan State. SP+ is predicting the final score to be 25-21 in favor of Rutgers.

Michigan State comes into this matchup in need of a victory to reach bowl eligibility for the first time since 2021. The Spartans are 5-6 overall and 3-5 in Big Ten play this year.

Michigan State is favored by 1.5 points, according to FanDuel. The line has moved down slightly since it opened earlier in the week.

Kickoff between the Spartans and Scarlet Knights is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
