NFL Insider: Titans’ Tony Pollard may be having ‘his best season’

Tennessee Titans running back Tony Pollard is having a great season, and one NFL Insider thinks it could be ‘his best season’ of his career.

The Tennessee Titans signed running back Tony Pollard during free agency after losing Derrick Henry to the Baltimore Ravens. Pollard is having a fantastic season, despite a few subpar games, and one NFL insider thinks he might be having his best season yet.

Brian Baldinger runs through some of Pollard’s film and breaks down how the running back gets down the field and also showcases Pollard’s ability to help in pass protection.

“Here he is in protection right now, who’s coming? Where can I help?” Baldinger says, “Right here, he sees a little color. Go plug that leak right there, like a good plumber.” Which Pollard does, giving Will Levis more time to throw the ball.

After showing how Pollard turns the corner using the path his line sets, Baldinger has, perhaps, the most telling breakdown. It happens on a play where it seems like Pollard has nowhere to go.

“The great ones can make yards when there’s nothing there,” he says before breaking down a play where Pollard had basically nowhere to go. There’s no hole,, there’s no way forward. But none of the Houston Texans’ defenders get his legs and Pollard ping-pongs through the line for a 17-yard gain.

Pollard is on track to record his third season in a row with more than 1,000 yards rushing. Add in his ability to aid the offensive line (specifically on the right side) some backup on pass protection, and Pollard is definitely having the best season of his career.
