Tulane and Louisiana both ranked above LSU in US LBM Coaches Poll

Despite beating Vanderbilt, LSU was unranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

It’s not often that LSU is ranked as the third-best team in the state of Louisiana, but Tulane and Louisiana received more votes than LSU in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.

Tulane moved up two spots, to No. 18. Louisiana and LSU were outside the top 25, but both received votes. Louisiana got seven points while LSU got three.

Despite the win over Vanderbilt, it wasn’t enough for LSU to earn respect back from the voters. The Tigers were ranked in the top 10 earlier in the season but three-straight losses led to a free fall. LSU now sits 7-4 on the year.

LSU will try to climb back into the poll next week with a win over Oklahoma. That game looks harder than it did a week ago with the Sooners notching a 24-3 win over Alabama.

If LSU can win that one, there’s a chance the Tigers can finish the year ranked.

As for Tulane, the Green Wave have their sights on something bigger than a poll ranking. Tulane is two wins away from an AAC title and a shot at a College Football Playoff appearance.

Louisiana sits at 9-2 after a 51-30 win over Troy.
