Tulane ahead of LSU in US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Poll

With LSU dropping, Tulane now sits above LSU in the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Poll

LSU is used to being the top football program in the state of Louisiana. The Tigers are the only P4 school in the boot and typically land the state’s top talent.

But recently, the Tigers have had some competition from the Tulane Green Wave. With LSU losing its third straight game to fall to 6-4 on the year, LSU was absent from the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Poll.

Meanwhile, Tulane was ranked No. 20 in both polls.

For years, Tulane didn’t make much noise in football. The New Orleans school left the SEC in 1964 and prior to 2022, Tulane had only finished ranked three times since leaving the conference.

But Willie Fritz led the Green Wave to a breakout two years ago, winning the Cotton Bowl. Fritz parlayed that into the job at Houston and Jon Sumrall has continued the success in 2024.

LSU may be out of the playoff race, but Tulane remains in the mix. If the Green Wave win the AAC, they’ll be considered for the G4 spot.
