The injury bug continues to bite the Florida football roster. The Gators lost über-talented wide receiver [autotag]Euegene Wilson III[/autotag] for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery to repair his injured hip on Tuesday, according to Swamp247.
He shared a post on social media after the procedure was completed.
According to sources with direct knowledge of the situation, the sophomore out of Tampa was in Chicago for the procedure, where one of the most highly respected specialists in the country performed the surgery. The hip condition Wilson has been dealing as been present since his birth and has led to other injury issues over the years.
“Tre’s injury has been lingering,” UF coach Billy Napier said Monday. “It’s been an issue that he’s had for quite a while that we’ve been navigating. I think at times he’s been able to produce and then there will be setbacks.”
Wilson caught 19 passes for 266 yards and one touchdown this fall, while rushing once for a zero-yard gain.
As a true freshman in 2023, Wilsone caught 61 passes for 538 yards and scored six touchdowns while also rushing six times for 55 yards. He led the team in touchdown catches and was second on the squad in total receptions, receiving yards and receiving yards per game.
As a result of his impressive debut campaign, the Gators standout was named to the First Team All-SEC Freshman team as well as the FWAA Freshman All-American team and 247Sports True Freshman All-American Team; was also a CFN Freshman All-American honorable mention.
