The Jacksonville Jaguars reunited with their former backup quarterback C.J. Beathard, signing the eighth-year veteran from the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad Wednesday.
Beathard, 30, never took a snap with the Dolphins after signing with the team’s practice squad two weeks ago. Prior to that, he spent three years backing up Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville. He began his career as a third-round pick with the San Francisco 49ers, where he spent the first four years of his professional career.
The Dolphins added Beathard to the roster after parting with Tim Boyle upon Tua Tagovailoa’s return from the injured reserve. Tyler Huntley, who started three games in the place of Tagovailoa, is currently on the Dolphins’ injured reserve.
Following the departure of Beathard, the only passers currently available to the Dolphins are Tagovailoa and Skylar Thompson. While that’s likely enough on Sundays, expect the team to add another quarterback to the practice squad if for no other reason than to have a third arm available in practices.
