Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko received the devastating news that star running back Le’Veon Moss’s knee injury during Saturday’s loss to South Carolina will result in the junior missing the remainder of the 2024 season. The running back room just got a lot thinner.
While the Moss news is certainly devastating from a personal perspective, head coach Mike Elko and his staff know that sitting at 7-2 and 5-1 in the SEC means that a College Football Playoff spot is still on the line, as the Aggies came in at No. 14 in the first CFP reveal on Tuesday night.
While the bright spots within the Aggies’ 44-20 loss to the Gamecocks are hard to find, senior wide receiver Jabre Barber is a great example. On Saturday, he led Texas A&M with seven receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown, looking like the only receiver able to consistently find separation in his routes.
On Monday, OC Collin Klein praised Barber’s performance, feeling that the senior could be the key to opening up A&M’s passing game:
“He has done a really nice job of working hard in practice. He’s made some tough man-to-man catches and had yards after a catch. His consistency has been really big.”
“That kid, we have to tell him to slow down in walkthrough. He is always chomping at the bit. Proud of him.”
Based on the quote, Babrer seems to be one of the hardest-working players in practice, which is surprising based on his recent play. If quarterback Marcel Reed continues as the Aggies’ starter, Barber’s quickness and pristine route running should provide Reed with an easy outlet while the redshirt freshman gets more comfortable in the pocket.
