With the NFL’s trade deadline nearing, it has been reported by ESPN’s Stephen Holder, that there have been “multiple inquiries” about Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Anthony Richardson.
“There have been multiple inquiries in recent days about the availability of Colts QB Anthony Richardson,” Holder posted on X.
He would also add that the Colts have given all teams the same response: “he’s off limits.”
The Colts made the decision to bench Richardson prior to the team’s Week 9 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings in favor of veteran Joe Flacco. As head coach Shane Steichen put it, Flacco gives the Colts the best chance to win–although the offense fell flat this past Sunday.
Since the benching, Steichen has made it clear that the organization is not giving up on Richardson, but believe taking a step back from the starting role is what’s best for him right now.
In theory that makes sense, however, when it comes to teams benching their first round quarterback selections, recent history isn’t working in the Colts’ favor.
The decision to bench Richardson has also seemingly put the Colts at the quarterback crossroads once again. The talented but very raw Richardson who needed experience is now on track to enter the 2025 season with still just 10 career starts.
The trade deadline is set for Tuesday, November 5th at 4:00 PM ET. The Colts are currently 4-5 on the season.
