Oregon Duck fans didn’t get a chance to enjoy their big win in The Big House over the Michigan Wolverines this past weekend. Worries about wide receiver Tez Johnson and the injury that knocked him out of the game loomed large.
There was speculation Johnson was dealing with either a shoulder injury or a collarbone injury. Either had a chance to end his season and career with the Ducks.
However, on Monday afternoon, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Johnson is expected to return this season and could be back in a few weeks.
I can confirm the team is hoping Johnson will be able to return as early as the Big Ten Conference championship game should the Ducks earn the trip to Indianapolis. That game takes place on Dec. 7.
It is an aggressive timeline for recovery, but one Johnson has marked on the calendar. If Johnson is unable to return for the conference championship game, there is optimism that he should be back by the College Football Playoffs — again, should Oregon get there.
This is great news for Duck fans who were worried their WR1 was gone for the rest of the season. So far this year, Johnson is leading the team with 64 catches for 649 yards and 8 touchdowns.
