Falcons sign linebacker, place rookie on injured reserve list

Falcons sign former first-round pick, place rookie defensive lineman on injured reserve list

The Atlanta Falcons’ 2024 rookie draft class suffered another blow on Friday as second-round pick Ruke Orhorhoro was placed on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury. The team signed linebacker Rashaan Evans to the 53-man roster in a corresponding move.

Evans, a former first-round pick, started 17 games for the Falcons back in 2022, leading the team with a career-high 159 tackles (86 solo). The veteran linebacker did not return in 2023 and later signed with the Dallas Cowboys.

Orhorhoro had come on strong over the last four weeks after being a healthy scratch in the first four games. The former Clemson standout recorded five total tackles and one QB hit in four games played.

Since rookie linebacker JD Bertrand has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys and Troy Andersen was listed as questionable, Evans can help add depth behind Kaden Elliss and Nate Landman in Week 9.

The Falcons have now placed two members of their 2024 draft class on the injured reserve list. Third-round pick Bralen Trice was placed on IR during the preseason after suffering a knee injury.

First-round pick Michael Penix Jr. has only appeared in one game this season and fourth-rounder Brandon Dorlus has yet to make his debut.
