For Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader had a workout on Tuesday with the New York Jets, according to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Update: Schrader was signed to the Jets practice squad.
Shrader went undrafted this past April out of Notre Dame and would spend offseason programs as well as training camp with Indianapolis.
During the preseason, Shrader would appear in two games, making all four extra-point attempts along with both field goals, including one from over 50-yards.
Following roster cutdowns, Shrader was signed to the Colts practice squad and then elevated for the team’s Week 1 matchup against Houston while Matt Gay was sidelined with a hernia injury. In that game, Shrader would make all three extra-point attempts.
Since then, Shrader has been on and off the Colts practice squad, at times on a weekly basis.
Along with Shrader, the Jets also had several other kickers in for a workout as well, including Brayden Narveson, Zane Gonzalez, Riley Patterson, Andre Szmyt, and Cade York.
The reason that the Jets are exploring other options at kicker is because Greg Zuerlein has been wildly inconsistent this season. On the year, Zuerlein has made just 9-of-15 field goal attempts, which includes missing four of his last seven kicks. No kicker this season has missed more field goals than Zuerlein.
