Auburn takes giant step forward in USA TODAY Sports re-rank

The Tigers gain ground in the weekly ranking following its win at Kentucky last Saturday night.

Auburn football has gained confidence after earning its first SEC win of the season, defeating Kentucky on the road last Saturday night.

The Tigers’ stock has risen since the win over the Wildcats, especially in USA TODAY Sports’ weekly re-rank. This week, Auburn is No. 84, up six spots from its place at No. 90 last week.

Auburn is one of 19 teams to advance at least five spots in Paul Myerberg’s rankings this week. North Carolina is this week’s biggest riser by jumping 16 spots to No. 63 after blowing out Virginia on the road, 41-14, last Saturday. Oklahoma State suffered the biggest drop by falling 21 places after losing to Baylor by 10 points in their previous game.

Auburn’s next opponent, Vanderbilt moves up one spot to No. 36 despite losing at home to Texas last Saturday. The Commodores out-rushed Texas, 114-104, but could not steal the win from the No. 6 Longhorns, falling 27-24.

The Tigers will look to keep momentum going this Saturday by hosting Vanderbilt for its first home game since Sept. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. CT and can be seen on SEC Network.
