Titans activate Cedric Gray, waive Abdullah Anderson

It was decision time for the Tennessee Titans on linebacker Cedric Gray, and the team decided to activate him from injured reserve.

The Tennessee Titans remained busy on the transaction front on Monday, making a move that has been in the works for a few weeks. The Titans activated rookie linebacker Cedric Gray from injured reserve and released defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson in a corresponding move.

A fourth-round selection out of North Carolina, Gray is somewhat of an unknown commodity at this point after suffering through an injury-riddled and dismal training camp. Now healthy, Gray will make his long-awaited debut and could gain some crucial experience after the team traded away linebacker Ernest Jones one week ago.

Gray was a sideline-to-sideline playmaker at North Carolina, recording 121 tackles during his senior year with the Tar Heels. He will join recently acquired Jerome Baker as reinforcements in the inside linebacking corps.

To make room, the team waived Anderson and likely intend to re-sign to the practice squad. In 202H4, he played 38 defensive snaps in four games. The journeyman defensive lineman has provided quality depth behind Jeffery Simmons and T’Vondre Sweat.

In his career, he has played in 33 games with the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Commanders, and Titans, recording 54 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a pass defended, and a fumble recovery over that span.
