Among the roster moves that were made on Saturday by the Indianapolis Colts, what they didn’t do was make any practice squad elevations for Sunday’s Week 8 matchup with the Houston Texans.
Each Sunday, teams are permitted to elevate up to two players from the practice squad to the game day roster. Over the course of the season, each player can be elevated up to three times.
The reason teams will utilize these elevations is if there are injuries and they need to bolster the depth of a certain position group.
So the fact that the Colts didn’t make any elevations for this upcoming game tells us that they are relatively healthy.
On Friday’s final injury report, DeForest Buckner and Cameron McGrone were both questionable while Genard Avery and Jaylon Carlies were already ruled out.
Two of the roster moves made on Saturday were the Colts activating both McGrone and Buckner off of injured reserve, which means each player will be available on Sunday. Indianapolis also placed Carlies on injured reserve.
The return of McGrone gives the Colts added linebacker help as they are now without Carlies for at least the next four games. Getting Buckner back bolsters the defensive line depth as a whole and without Avery, the Colts still have five other defensive ends on the 53-man roster.
Now a big matchup with the Texans awaits the Colts. Although it’s only Week 8, this game against Houston comes with major AFC South division implications.
