The Los Angeles Rams might be on the verge of trading a franchise great.
News broke on Tuesday that the Rams were calling other teams about possibly trading Cooper Kupp, with the team wanting a second-round NFL Draft pick in return and willing to take on some of Kupp’s 2024 salary to get a deal done.
That would be seismic for a Los Angeles team that was expected to contend this season before a disappointing 2-4 start caused in part by injuries.
What’s the latest? Well, Kupp will return to football for Thursday night’s Rams game against the Minnesota Vikings after missing time with injury.
That will give prospective teams a chance to see where Kupp is right now with his health to better frame a possible trade for the veteran wideout.
The Rams reportedly discussed a possible Kupp trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, but Kansas City ultimately went with DeAndre Hopkins instead.
Teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers remain sensible options for a Rams trade partner.
However, Kupp remains a Ram for now. We’ll wait and see how this saga ends ahead of the Nov. 5 NFL trade deadline.
