Michigan football is in dire need of a quarterback. The Wolverines have worked through three thus far in 2024 and though former four-star QB Jadyn Davis is on the roster, he doesn’t appear to be much of an option this season.
Even so, Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy appears to be all-in on the name, image, and likeness game, and though the initial thought was that he would look to the transfer portal, perhaps either he, or another benefactor, appears set to get into the recruiting game.
Enter five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, the top recruit in the country from nearby Belleville (Mich.) who committed to LSU earlier in the process. Though he’s not seemed to consider the in-state Wolverines much beyond early in his recruitment, according to Rivals national recruiting reporter Adam Gorney, it appears as if Michigan is working to entice Underwood to come to Ann Arbor once again.

At this juncture, there’s no indication as to whether or not Michigan can do enough to entice Underwood to eschew his commitment to go to Baton Rouge or not. Also, the Wolverines do have four-star QB Carter Smith committed, and it’s also unclear how much their potential targeting of Underwood could affect his pledge.
Nonetheless, the college football game has changed and if the Wolverines are going to get back into College Football Playoff contention, they’ll need to get into the game. And until recently, they’ve seemed reticent to do that.
But, if Michigan is at least swinging for the fences, that’s a good sign for things to come, regardless if Underwood flips or not.
