The immediate success of Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been one of the early stories of the NFL season. That’s what made the scene in Sunday’s Week 7 matchup against the Panthers so tough to watch.
On the first play of the Commanders’ opening drive, Daniels took off for a 47-yard run. But at the tail end of the tackle, we can see as Daniels showed some discomfort around his ribs. The Commanders medical staff attempted to work the area on the sidelines after the drive, but it became apparent that something was wrong … and Daniels knew it.
Right before he was set to head to the locker room for X-rays, Daniels slammed his helmet out of frustration — never a good sign.

The Commanders eventually ruled that Daniels was questionable to return with a rib injury, and Marcus Mariota entered the game for Washington.
Let’s hope Daniels receives some good news given the circumstances.
Update: Daniels eventually returned to the sidelines in street clothes and was ruled out for the game.
