CBS Sports riding the ‘Iowa overs’ train again vs. Michigan State

Once again, CBS Sports is back riding the train of Iowa games going over with their pick against the Michigan State Spartans.

It may feel like a parallel universe, but the Iowa Hawkeyes are scoring points in bunches and the days are their games setting record lows for totals are a thing of the past.

This team scores and they hit the over now!

Their next test is against the Michigan State Spartans at their place in an attempt to continue scoring as they are on the hunt to move their record to 5-2 overall and continue ascending the Big Ten standings.

After believing in it last week, Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports is back again believing in the Iowa Hawkeyes sending another game over as one of his picks of the week.

Iowa at Michigan State: I mentioned earlier that betting the team totals of Utah State’s opponents has been an ATM in 2024, but you know what else has been? The over in Iowa games. I know, it’s a sentence that seemingly shouldn’t make any sense, but the truth is the truth. Iowa has played six games this year and the over is 5-1 as those matchups are finishing an average of 7.58 points over the total.

Yet, here we are with Iowa playing another game with a total set in the low 40s. Listen, the passing attack is still poor, but Kaleb Johnson and this Iowa rushing offense are ripping off chunk play after chunk play. It should continue against Michigan State. Also, Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles puts the football in dangerous spots far too often, which is a recipe for disaster against Iowa. The Hawkeyes could easily add points on defense here, too. The Pick: Over 40.5 (-108) via DraftKings – Tom Fornelli, CBS Sports

This one going over could happen in classic Iowa fashion. It won’t be because of slinging the ball around, but their ground game led by Kaleb Johnson and a much-improved offensive line leaning on the Spartans.

The Hawkeyes could find themselves with a lead in this one, which forces Michigan State to throw the ball. Aidan Chiles already has eight interceptions and that tendency against a ball-hawking Iowa defense could lead directly to points or short fields.
