Indianapolis Colts release LB from practice squad to make room for WR addition

The Indianapolis Colts announced that they released a LB from the practice squad to make room for an addition at WR.

On Thursday, ahead of their Week 7 matchup with the Miami Dolphins, the Indianapolis Colts announced that they signed wide receiver Ethan Fernea to the practice squad.

In order to make room for Fernea on the practice squad, the corresponding move was the team releasing linebacker Austin Ajiake.

Ajiake joined the Colts practice squad in December of 2023. Before joining the Colts, Ajiake spent time with Green Bay and Las Vegas last season as well.

He would then remain with the Colts this offseason and through training camp. Following roster cutdowns in late-August, the Colts signed Ajiake to the practice squad, where he has been up until this point.

Ajiake hasn’t appeared in any regular season games in his career. During this most recent preseason with Indianapolis, he appeared in all three games, playing 64 defensive snaps and 32 on special teams. He recorded 11 total tackles and a pass breakup.

Ajiake went undrafted in 2023 out of UNLV, where he appeared in 48 games, totaling 232 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, along with playing 671 special teams snaps. Ajiake is a good athlete, running a 4.6-second 40 during the pre-draft process.

Now on the practice squad, Liam Anderson is the lone linebacker. On the 53-man, the Colts have Zaire Franklin, EJ Speed, Jaylon Carlies, Segun Olubi, and Grant Stuard.
